Isaiah lived in those conditions, yet was true to his calling by God to proclaim light through the Word of the Lord. At one point, Isaiah prophesied that “Galilee of the nations…the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in the land of deep darkness, on them has light shone” (Isaiah 9:1-2; Matthew 4:12-16). Notice that God’s word through the prophet is spoken as if it had already happened when in fact it would not come for almost 700 years through the birth of Jesus the Messiah.
Jesus makes a similar, but much more far reaching proclamation in Matthew 24:14; “This gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations [people groups] and then the end will come.” THE LIGHT OF THE GOSPEL WILL REACH EVERY PEOPLE GROUP! Jesus never raised money or campaigned for this worldwide endeavor. He never built an organization or established an educational center. He only told His disciples, “GO!” (28:19), AND THEY WENT! Luke gives us a first-hand account of how these disciples were driven by the light of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry the light of the Savior to the ends of the earth.
