As we start this journey through the Book of Acts, it is very important to observe the key principles or characteristics that marked the beginning of the church. We call these the “SUPRACULTURAL, TIMELESS PRINCIPLES”. Even though they are recorded as historical elements of the Early Church “then”, they still apply “now” because they are true for the church in any period of time and in any culture, under any conditions. For that reason we call them “Absolute Functions” that are necessary for the church to fulfill God’s purpose and design (plan or administration) which was “hidden for ages in God who created all things” (Ephesians 3:9).
I am going to let you ‘chew’ on these thoughts before giving some of the “Key Principles” in Acts 1:1 to 6:7. I invite you to read this section of Acts ahead of my next blog and try to pick out these “Key Principles” so your mind and heart is already tracking with me. Some of them may be functioning in the church where you are, and some may not, or least, not as they should. If they are not, it is time to ask, ‘why not’! Also, remember that an “Absolute Function” is not the same as a “Form or Tradition” that is not biblically based. This is where confusion often occurs in the church. To correct this problem we must return to the Scriptures to make the distinction clear.
I will meet you at the next post
