Sufficiency and Authority of Scripture: While there are many references in God’s Word to this truth, I will only point to a few. This subject is covered in more detail in Lesson 47, pages 188-190 in God’s Plan for His Church.
“You have exalted above all things your name and your word” (Psalm 138:2).
“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (Matthew 4:4).
“The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,” (Ephesians 6:17).
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16–17).
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12).
You can see both of these elements of the Sufficiency and Authority of Scripture in each reference above. Without this principle governing every thought and action, personally and in the church, there cannot be spiritual growth or ministry that glorifies God.
