As a follow-up to yesterday’s blog, we will explore in the days ahead the character or quality of God’s Word, the Bible, and what it does when received into the mind, heart and soul. If we are going to treasure this message from the only true God, we must also know why it should be treasured. Paul emphatically states that all of it is “breathed out by God” (2 Timothy 3:17), and Peter says “that no prophecy of Scripture…was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:20-21).
David realized that “the law of the Lord is perfect (meaning: without defect, blameless, holy and pure); the testimony of the Lord is sure (meaning: trustworthy and reliable)” (Psalm 19:7). This totally agrees with what Paul and Peter said about Scripture. Shouldn’t these statements alone be enough to cause us to treasure God’s Word more than we do?
Stay tuned for much more on this subject. We will get to the things Scripture will do in us, but first we must have a firm grasp on its nature.
