There are so few of us in the West, including myself, who understand the conditions of suffering among Christians in Nigeria. Since January 2018, 1,300 have been killed and many of them were Christians. We must give ourselves to prayer for this nation in two ways:
1. “I urge that supplications, prayers intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people… This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:1-3).
2. “Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body” (Hebrews 13:3). This would include suffering.
At the same time, God is doing amazing things among hungry disciples in Nigeria. They want to take our training forward on their own, if we will supply the books! This is a huge step for them. Like so many other places, Christians are looking for others to pay for what they do rather than being self-supporting, self-sustaining and self-propagating. Randy is there and is meeting with leaders to discuss how they can do just this and press into the 10/40 Window! ‘With so much of Western and Northern Africa in this window that has many of the unengaged and unreached people groups of the world, we must pray that their vision will be gospel and Holy Spirit driven.
We must pray. Some weeks ago, I wrote about feeling the heart of God for people and how that changes our priorities and the way we use our resources. The first of these resources we should consider is our time. What amount of time do you devote to prayer and fellowship with God learning His heart? Everything will flow in the right direction when your treasure is God’s heart for people. Much of Jesus teaching the disciples resulted from Him “seeing the crowds” (Matthew 5:1).
