We tend to downplay the impact of our private devotional life on our public ministry. This is one of the worst reasons why the church is so ineffective and weak in evangelism and witness. Peter and John were “bold” and effective in the face of opposition so that “the people…were praising God for what had happened” (4:21). “And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all.” (Acts 4:33).
Have you minimized the importance of your private time with the Lord and not realized this has directly affected your marriage, family, church and public ministry and testimony to the world? People see whether Christ is being formed in you through a deepening personal relationship with Him or if you are merely going through the motions and pretending. Power and effectiveness in every area of life comes from spending time in the Lord’s presence letting Him speak to you through His Word. This is not determined by education, social status or possessions.
