“Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35). I assume we would all agree that Jesus is “bread” to a spiritually hungry heart. But why do so many live such dissatisfied and purposeless lives. The answer lies in four words, “whoever comes to me”. So many turn to other things, other people, and struggle to quench their hungers with everything except time with the Lord.
Those who come to Jesus and sit at His feet, as Mary did, find their hunger satisfied. “And she [Martha] had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching.” (Luke 10:39). Jesus had to tell Martha that she was “anxious and troubled about many things” (10:41). The things Mary learned prepared her to see the reality of resurrection power.
Are you spiritually hungry; perhaps even feel empty? I can tell you from my own experience that time alone with Jesus in the morning refreshes, equips and gives inspiration to my day! Never reduce this time with Him to a ritual, but by faith learn its infinite value by experience. Only Jesus can quench your thirst!
