We met with a close friend today who is also a pastor, and our conversation went in the direction of addictions that cripple the lives of many Christians and make them ineffective. This is a great concern to me. Hardly a week goes by when I don’t hear of someone in ministry that falls prey to the allurement of lust and sins of addiction. This is true of believers.
As we left our friend, my heart prayed, asking the Lord to protect my mind and heart; strengthen my walk with Him so there would never be a moment where I would yield to these temptations.
The Lord answered my prayer in a very unusual way. An article came to my attention pointing to Scriptures that address these issues. I will quickly add that the Scriptures in this and following blogs are not just for sins of lust or addiction, but any sin that we have not repented of, forsaken, and brought under the control of the Holy Spirit.
We first turn to Psalm 90:14. “Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” The desire of Moses was that each day begin with an attitude of being satisfied through communion with God. If we start our day with worry, discontent, or emptiness, we will turn to things other than the Lord to fill the void. Only our relationship with the Lord, His “steadfast love” is able to satisfy the human heart. He alone brings joy and gladness!
If you are beginning your day, any day, without personal time with the Lord, you are opening the door for Satan to suggest there is satisfaction in something that leads to bondage. It’s time to restart your day, every day, with the Lord and let Him equip and satisfy you early.
