Suffering will always be a thing to avoid or dread unless we know clearly what our mission is! Jesus gave us our mission just as He was departing this world; “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them…teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20) and “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you and you will be My witness” (Acts 1:8). Jesus also warned that being faithful witnesses for Him would involve suffering and persecution (John 15:18-27) and is normal to a path of love for our mission. “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.” (1 Peter 4:12). “Share in suffering as a good soldier of Jesus Christ” (2 Timothy 2:3) and “the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will reward…on that Day…to all who have loved his appearing” (4:8).
