Jesus taught a very large crowd the Parable of the Sower, but when He was alone with the disciples, He shared with them “the secret of the kingdom of God” as it related to this parable. He warns them about what they will face in sowing seed of the word – the gospel of the kingdom. I want to focus on Mark 4:18-19; “And others (seeds) are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.” (Mark 4:18–19).
If you are reading this blog, I have no doubt that God has sown the seed of the gospel into your heart through someone. What has happened to that seed? Has it multiplied thirty times, sixty times, one hundred times, or NOT AT ALL? Have the “cares of the world” crowded out your time with the Lord so that you have no “joy” and “pleasure” in His presence (Ps. 16:11)? Have the “deceitfulness of riches” caused you to “fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that will plunge you into ruin and destruction” (1 Timothy 6:9)? These and “the desires for other things enter in and choke the word” so that your fruit bearing for the Father’s glory (John 15:8) becomes very limited and damaged.
DO NOT let these things “choke the word” of God in your life. As you finish reading this blog, cry out to God and ask Him to rekindle a hunger for reading, listening and meditating on His Word. This is a major battle we all face and no battle is won unless we get fresh supplies daily from the Father’s limitless resources. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you new desires for deeper fellowship with the Lord. Then your joy in Him will grow and become a mighty river of life that nothing can stop. YOU WILL BECOME UNSTOPPABLE THROUGH THIS FELLOWSHIP IN SOWING THE SEED IN OTHERS!
