As we examine the expansion of the Early Church and the “timeless, supracultural principles” that the Holy Spirit engraved into their spiritual DNA, it is vital that we contrast this movement of God with what is happening in the church today. Without this honest comparison, we may blindly continue with habits that actually inhibit (hinder) the work of the Holy Spirit. We must grow in our desire and passion to let the Spirit transform our hearts and minds so that expansion of the church is accelerated under His control.
Here are more of the key principles in this section that cannot be overlooked:
Acts 8:9-25 – Philip preached the good news about the kingdom and Jesus led to many believing in Him, baptism, and receiving the Holy Spirit.
Acts 8:26-40 – Philip obeyed divine guidance and spontaneously opened the Word of God’s grace to a stranger. This resulted in immediate __________.
Acts 9:1-19 – Jesus personally intervened in the life of Saul, a persecutor of the church, to open his eyes and be filled with the Holy Spirit. No case is too difficult for God to transform by His light!
Acts 9:20-25 – Saul, a new convert, “immediately…proclaimed Jesus” to the amazement of others.
Acts 9:26-31 – God used Barnabas to disciple Saul so that he _________ _______ in the name of Jesus.
If nothing else, we observe that God’s work through the Holy Spirit in unlikely individuals is one of the ways He works to spontaneously spread the gospel and the church. Never discount what God will, and wants to do through you!
