We had a very important Zoom Prayer Meeting today for this ministry. The inspiration for our time came from Paul’s words in Philippians 1:12-14. “I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel” (1:12).
You will remember that Paul was in prison when he wrote this letter, which makes this comment very important. He was certainly not complaining about the circumstances in any way. Just the opposite; Paul says that this confinement in prison had resulted in the gospel being spread even more. In fact, “it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ” (1:13). Paul gives an immediate example of the gospel spreading right there among the guards and others in the imperial palace.
How do you look at your circumstances? They may be very normal or they may be very difficult. It really does not matter what degree of ease or difficulty you are in, are you letting God use them to advance the gospel? We may all agree that the goal of every believer should be to promote the gospel. But, do you think that way when you are suffering or going through circumstances that challenge our faith? It depends on where your heart is fixed.
